Question of the Week 20
HEATWAVE SURVIVAL TIPS ![]()
Hot weather and heatwaves can be especially difficult for children and young people with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, complex needs or medical needs.
Some children may find it harder to regulate their body temperature, communicate that they are too hot, drink enough fluids, tolerate changes to clothing or routines, or access cooler spaces.
For some families, heat can also make moving, handling, transport, equipment, sleep, seizures, fatigue, pain or personal care more challenging.
What is your best heatwave tip for another SEND family?
It could be something that helps with:
keeping cool in wheelchairs, beds or supportive seating
encouraging fluids when drinking is difficult
sleep and rest during hot nights
safer travel, school transport or appointments
managing heat at school, college or respite
suncream, hats, clothing or cooling aids
creating a calm, accessible cool space at home
